The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) is a giant agency that’s all about restricting your rights as an American.
It’s the kind of institution that our Founding Fathers opposed when they rose up against the British Empire and stood for America.
Now every year, the ATF grows in size and power, and nowhere is that more true than under Joe Biden. However, Biden has a serious problem. He’s having issues getting a new director confirmed and sitting in the big seat at ATF.
Previous attempts to push through anti-gun nut David Chipman failed badly; now, Biden has a new and more respectable gun grabber in mind: attorney Steve Dettelbach.
Though it’s not going to be as easy as Biden hopes. Here’s why…
The Midterms Are Coming
The midterm elections are coming up now in less than half a year; the left is running out of time to get someone confirmed at ATF and passed through the Senate.
If they want anybody who can have real power in pursuing the left’s gun control ideas, they’ll need someone who’s got a stamp of approval from the US Senate.
That’s not going to happen once Republicans take over everything come the midterms. So, Biden is hoping to get Dettelbach the golden seal of approval from the Senate as soon as possible.
The issue is the Senate is fully split 50-50, with a tiebreaker vote from VP Kamala Harris. This means in order to get Dettelbach Senate-approved, they need every single Democrat to vote down the line for his confirmation.
That looks increasingly unlikely for the simple reason that not all Democrats are in favor of Dettelbach or sure about his credentials.

Which Democrats Are Still Skeptical of Dettelbach?
There are various Democrats who didn’t like Chipman and are not sure about Dettelbach either. They are Democrat Senator Jon Tester of Montana, Democrat-leaning Independent Senator Angus King of Maine, and Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia.
These three men come from states and hold beliefs that are not fully in line with the gun control agenda. For this reason, they are not interested in letting down constituents by putting through extremists to the ATF.
They will be meeting with Dettelbach to have more in-depth talks with him about his beliefs and decide whether they can vote to confirm him or not. These meetings will be crucial to the Democrats in getting Dettelbach through the Senate and into the ATF before the midterms.
'My thoughts on Mr. Dettelbach are thus – if he’s such an accomplished gun-grabber, maybe Joe should send him to Kabul, where there are plenty of guns for him to grab, all bought and paid for with American taxpayer' dollars.https://t.co/R59LuQSPQW

The Bottom Line
Biden faces an uphill climb to get Dettelbach in at ATF, but it’s still definitely possible that he will. Dettelbach is more professional than Chipman and is good at using nice-sounding words to cloak his anti-gun beliefs.
Keep your eyes on the Senate.
