The Burris XTR II 5-25×50 mm riflescope has incredible clarity and state-of-the-art technology for serious precision shooters, tactical and competitive. The scope over delivers for the price with features and quality of scopes more than twice the cost. Will it hold up? The Burris Forever Warranty™ is a pretty big vote of confidence.
When I got the XTR II in the mail and opened it, I realized that I didn’t want to put this scope on just any gun. I had a project in mind and this was the perfect tax deductible excuse. I had a Remington 700 tactical in the box with no scope. I took it to Tridentis Tactical and got a makeover.
I kept the 20 inch barrel for lightweight and quick handling. The Magpul stock and magizine was a no brainer. 20 MOA scope base gives me some long range options and the XTR II bplted right on. Tridentis trued it up and put a Timmney trigger in. The green stock demanded green Ceracote.
I broke the gun in with Armscor .308 ball 147 grain. At 200 yards I was getting 4 MOA groups, excellent for FMJ ammo. After break in, I used Armscor 168 grain HPBT (equivilant to Federal 168 gr Match). I zeroed at 200 using a bipod and rear bag. There was very little adjustment between Armscor 174 grain to the 168 grain. The groups on the target are each three 168 grain rounds from 200 yards, The black pasties are 1 inch square. You can do the math. I was very impressed.
The XTR II is very clear, easy to adjust and precise. I love the SCR reticle. With front focal plane optics and mil/mil reticle and adjustments everything is simple.
Designed for rough field use, the XTR II has a 1-piece body tube, waterproof and nitrogen-filled to prevent internal fogging in the cold and high humidity. The hand-fitted internal assemblies are triple spring-tensioned for absolute shock proofing, even under severe recoil. They are vibration resistant and hold adjustment even after bouncing around in the back of your truck.
The 34mm tube provides an excellent field of view and range of adjustment. The 5-times zoom system give you a large field of view at close ranges and better target acquisition at long ranges.
Burris Hi-Lume® multi-coated lenses optimize target resolution, glare elimination, contrast, and low-light performance. The glass is very clear and the focus adjustments let me make the reticle sharp and clean.
The illuminated reticle is handy at dusk and dawn expanding the hours you may shoot and reduces time to get on target in low light. Eleven brightness settings span night vision, low light, and daytime. To kep you from turning the knob all the way around to off, there is a battery-saver position between each setting. The ergonomic side focus knob is easy-to-reach with parallax adjustment from 50 yds to infinity to let you keep the reticle and target in the same focal plane.
The dimensionally matched precision adjustment knobs have solid feedback each click and the precise milling makes precise adjustments easy. The inside of a scope has tiny gears which must be precise like a watch. The difference between quality and junk is the precision of these clicks. The scope tracks perfectly and shooting a box is simple and precise. Windage and elevation adjustments are accurate and repeatable.
The XT-100 click adjustment knob have 100 clicks per rotation and can take most tactical calibers out past 1,000 yards in a single turn. These knobs provide easier calculations, faster adjustments, and less chance of getting lost on the dial. Multi-turn adjustment knobs have a 1/10-mil click value adjustment with 10 mils per rotation and multi revolutions of adjustment.
The reticle adjustments match the measurement system of the reticle simplifying correction calculations. Zero Click Stop adjustment knobs let you quickly and easily revert back to the original yardage setting without counting clicks
The front focal plane reticle allows the reticle size to increase or decrease as magnification is increased or decreased so the measurement of angles remains constant through various magnifications. Trajectory compensation is always correct and proportional for the selected power setting.
The versatile SCR™ Mil illuminated reticle is ideal long-range precision shooting; allowing rapid determination of target size and distance. An extended illumination area lets you engage targets at long distances, even in low light. Vertical crosshair features 1/2-mil marks for distance holdover; horizontal crosshair offers 1-mil and 2/10-mil lines for windage hold-off. There are 1/10-mil ranging brackets at the top, left extreme, and right extreme of the crosshair, for precise ranging.
