Glock started a media firestorm in the shooting sports industry when they announced their new single stack .380 pistol, the Glock 42 (we saw it at SHOT Show this year). Most people with whom I’ve spoken about it have expressed passionate opinions; they seem to either completely love it or absolutely hate it. What do you think about the new Glock 42?

It looks small, even in your hand!

I don’t think this gun make much sense to exist. Because already have 2 .380 Glocks,
the 25 and 28, the first is based on the 17 9mm model and the second on
the 26 9mm. I don’t know if this happend on 42, in the other models I
mention, you need use +p ammo, because the springs are the same as the
9mm, so there’s a big probability to jam.
The grip smaller than the other Glocks, but still bigger than the other compacts.

I think could be more easy to get an “OK” from ATF than create a new gun.
And, there’s better options, in at least 9mm, the same size and with similar price.
BTW, Great shooting you done Destinee, looks like this gun was made for you. I can shoot anything perfectely 🙂

Better options imo, even glocktards are not overly excited, a single stack 9mm would have been a better fit. Can’t see it doing well other than Glocktrads trying it I already see them for sale second hand.

I think a .380 is fine. Just because it is smaller does not mean it is less effective. The argument is you need a large stopping power, and that is correct in most circumstances however for a small ccw at hand to hand distance it is good.

Meh. Ten years too late. Not impressed. Plus, it’s a Glock, which doesn’t impress me much in the first place.

I just bought one of these for my wife.  We tried many of the micro-9s and .380s on the market at our local rental range.  The 42 is a smaller gun then it appears in comparison photos.  It is, however, bigger then most micro .380s and about the same size as the smallest 9s, but those guns are extremely difficult for infrequent or inexperienced shooters to produce good follow up shots with.  My wife was a little torn as to which way to go until I had her do controlled pairs (she doesn’t mind recoil, and always punches out the 10 ring, but snappy recoil can seriously slow down controlled pairs).  At that point, the 42 was the clear winner.  she is accurate in slow fire with most of them, but she was consistently FAST and accurate with the 42, which, in my opinion, outweighs the terminal advantage of  the 9mm.  I suspect as she gets more trigger time in, she may want to upgrade to a similar sized 9, but until then, this fits the bill perfectly.

As you predicted, people either love or hate Glocks.

I don’t think I have ever even heard of a gun I would not like to see, shoot or own–so while I would gladly consider a Glock 42 in any one of the aforementioned capacities, I would not do so for a CCW when I can get a single stack 9mm of (relatively) the same size (even for BUG). I think Glock got caught with their proverbial ‘thumb in the wrong place’ and got to the party way too late…Just my two cents.
