The shooting in Uvalde, Texas took the lives of 19 kids and two teachers. It’s a horrific reminder of the depth of evil that exists in this world.
Accused shooter, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos also died in the attack after being taken out by border tactical (BORTAC) agents who eventually stormed the school.
The unfortunate thing is how right after the shooting, Joe Biden and his incompetent administration made this slaughter about gun control. We heard how the “gun lobby” were the ones truly to blame for what happened, not Ramos.
We heard how somehow AR-15 rifles and “assault weapons” were the reason school shootings and gun violence is getting so bad in the United States.
Well, here’s a reality check…
The Harsh Truth
The harsh truth is gun control is not going to stop shootings. Only better laws and better people are going to stop shootings and violence.
When it comes to gun violence, the vast majority is done with handguns as in our inner cities like Chicago, where 40 people were shot just this past weekend with almost no media coverage.
When it comes to school shootings specifically, these horrible events are the result of broken families, mental illness, and lack of parental/authority figures cracking down on unwell and extreme individuals.
It is also a result of inadequate prevention and response strategies in place for school shootings.
We now know these horrible events happen in this country. We must be more prepared for immediate and lethal responses in the future, including keeping at least one heavily armed guard in schools at all times.
We also must start improving a sealed entryway system for schools, where a check is done prior to a second door unlocking for someone entering the school.
In such a way, everyone would be checked before entering a school and no shooter would ever get further than the front grounds.
Here's the truth: I've been firmly on the side of 'gun control' for years, because I didn't see a single argument against. Now I do.
We don't want police – like the ones in Minneapolis and Uvalde – to be the only people who are armed. That's a script for catastrophe.

Gun Control Isn’t the Answer
Gun control isn’t the answer. That’s not because of some “gun lobby” or scoring votes in Republican primaries. It’s because the logic behind gun control makes almost no sense.
While you could argue raising the age of legal purchase might stop some school shooters who aren’t very bright, others would simply turn to criminals, the dark web, and the black market to obtain high-powered weapons.
The weapons are out there. If we stopped any company from manufacturing or importing another weapon into the United States ever again, there would still be plenty of guns out there and available for psychopaths.
That’s why we also need to make sure they’re available for law-abiding people and heroes to stop those psychopaths.
We also need to be honest that 94% of shootings are happening in gun-free zones where guns are completely prohibited. Criminals, gangsters, and school shooters actively pick areas that are poorly defended to kill people.
We saw this in the case of Buffalo white supremacist Payton Gendron as well, who noted in his twisted manifesto that he’d chosen to do his shooting against black people in New York state due to its weak carry laws.
He, therefore, knew there was a low chance anyone would be carrying a serious weapon.
The Uvalde tragedy was not “caused” by guns or a lack of gun control laws.
It was caused by the FBI missing red flags, the community & family ignoring mental illness, the school’s poor security & police failing to intervene for over an hour to stop the shooter.
Get it straight.
