Gun Owners of America is one of the most important groups standing up for gun owners today in this country. On the state level, they also have numerous gun rights groups of concerned citizens who want to protect our right to keep and bear arms.
Recently, this paid off in a big way in the Tarheel State. Leftist Sheriff Garry McFadden was taken to task for his attempts to deny people their 2A rights.
GOA and local gun rights group Grass Roots NC (GRNC) have emerged victorious with an injunction filed against McFadden-run Mecklenburg County. This is because of his lawbreaking on issuing gun permits.
What Did McFadden Do?
Buying a handgun in North Carolina is surprisingly hard. In order to purchase one, you need a CC (concealed carry) permit or special permission to buy a handgun.
While COVID was going on, McFadden’s police department got very behind on giving people permission to buy guns.
In fact, unless a person is being rejected, the sheriff only has 45 days to either give out permission or not. He completely exceeded this limit, taking up to 10 months to give out permits.
A record number of people were buying guns during the pandemic. They wanted to get their permission, including in places like Mecklenburg County, but people like McFadden and his incompetence stood in their way.
Crime was skyrocketing during this whole time, especially in large cities such as Charlotte. McFadden claimed he just couldn’t keep up with demand.
However, considering that his department has over $130 million in its budget and 1,800 employees, it’s not exactly like he was shorthanded…

Here’s the Thing…
McFadden only allocated 18 out of the 1,800 employees to permitting.
That was his choice; he was well aware of the law requiring 45 days maximum to issue the licenses. His failure to follow the law is on him, which is why he’s now lost the preliminary injunction and is looking at some serious punishment.
A preliminary injunction is not the same as being found guilty. However, it means a judge decided you’re likely to be found guilty and have to prepare for a potential legal case.
This basically means McFadden is in big trouble. When his department should have been giving out permits to law-abiding citizens, they were instead focused on things like patrolling gun shows.
Apparently Gary McFadden has come close to having the jails shut down by the state for unsafe work environment. He’s almost failed jail inspections several times is the rumor on the street. I knew him as a homiecide detective and he was always a tool. Would never live in Meck Co

It would be much better if NC put through permitless carry so situations like this weren’t happening. McFadden broke the law because he’s powerful and thought he could get away with it.
He’s been consistently identified as someone who doesn’t take good care of his county. He has let things slide on his watch. It’s good that GOA and GRNC have won this first step in the process of holding him accountable.
