The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) can’t seem to go more than a day or two without trying to restrict our gun rights. These people are fanatical about it.
Despite the failure to put anti-gun extremist David Chipman in charge of the agency, the ATF is continuing to make moves against the Second Amendment and basic rights. Now, some in the GOP are warning against just how bad things are about to get, with plans in the works for a federal gun registry.
A Federal Gun Registry is on the Horizon
If you ask the ATF officially, a federal gun registry isn’t in the cards. However, according to the Republicans, the agency is already putting in place various practical steps to create the legal basis for a gun registry in the near future.
A letter from Congressman Michael Cloud spells out a lot of the concerns conservatives have. Cloud is a Republican from Texas who represents its 27th congressional district that includes Victoria and Corpus Christi.
Along with over 50 of his fellow conservatives, Cloud sent a letter to the current head of the ATF, Marvin Richardson. They explained various parts of a new ATF rule show warning signs of being the groundwork for a federal gun registry down the road.
This isn’t just paranoia, either. The new rule by the ATF hasn’t been put in place yet, but it requires everyone with a federal gun license to keep all their gun purchase records, even if they’re older than 20 years.
That sounds a lot to me like it could be one piece of the puzzle to get a federal registry in place. What about you?
Proud of @RepCloudTX for leading this effort. Texans do not want Big Brother government gaining more information on law-abiding American gun owners. Looking forward to receiving answers from the Acting Director of the ATF, Marvin Richardson. https://t.co/VPphzNtnJg

Cloud Leads the Fight
Keeping old records might not seem to matter much on the surface. However, since those with a federal license have to give records to the ATF, it eventually means the ATF would have records of all American gun owners.
As Cloud says, this is a “giant leap” to getting a federal registry in place. Good on him for recognizing this threat. The Biden regime is relentless in its attacks on 2A and we need sharp minds like Cloud’s on the job.
If this goes through, then everything since 2001 will be in the ATF’s records. We need to take this seriously and think about the implications for our Second Amendment and for basic freedom in America.
"More alarming is ATF’s apparent willingness to unilaterally make important firearms policy determinations wholly apart from Congress," the Republicans wrote in a letter to acting ATF head Marvin Richardson. https://t.co/kNvL0xXpC0

The Bottom Line
Plenty of good folks work at the ATF, but its leadership is rotten. The Biden regime is using the ATF as one of its many tools for encroaching on our rights and trying to take away our lawful right to own firearms. This is not OK and we should all throw our full weight behind Cloud as he demands answers.
