The Violence Against Women Act (HR 1620) sounds good on the surface. After all, who doesn’t want to stop violence against women? However, as usual, progressives have buried gun grabbing legislation into the bill.
They laced it with anti-Second Amendment junk that will strip away our rights and ability to protect ourselves. Is it just me or does it seem like every day, the left comes up with new and even more shameless ways to try to trick us into giving up our God-given rights?
Putting Women in Danger … Under the Guise of Keeping Them Safe
As usual, the Democrats are trying to pack anti-American fascist garbage into a bill that seems legitimate on the outside. VAWA was first passed in 1994 in order to fight domestic violence. Nobody loves a wife-beater, so it sounds like good news, and at first it was.
However, over the years, the left has stuffed this bill full of gun control measures, claiming we need to crack down on guns because they feed into domestic violence. In particular, those who have a restraining order put on them won’t get gun rights.
Moreover, anyone who has domestic violence records or an ex parte case against them will face gun ownership issues. The bill also increases the ways in which guns can be seized under the justification they are or could be potentially used in an intimidating or aggressive way in a domestic conflict situation.
Domestic violence is unconscionable. To combat it, we must renew and strengthen #VAWA. https://t.co/kNQnbsvo22

Speaking Out Against Hypocrisy
Kerry Slone is a guns rights activist of We the Female and she stands up for women and guns. She is a trainer who teaches people firearm safety and she’s part of a lawsuit against the I-1639 anti-2A law in Washington State.
As Slone says, the VAWA provisions are not trying to make women safe; they’re actually trying to strip away gun rights, which puts all of us in more danger. That’s especially true of women: after all, gun rights are women’s rights.
If you start cutting into a woman’s ability to defend herself, you are responsible for the horrible things which can happen.

Here’s the Thing
Obviously, if a man is being abusive and waving a gun around at his female partner, it should be taken away from him. That’s not what’s at issue here. What’s at issue is the VAWA’s gun grabbing portions are actually just designed to cut into gun rights as a whole.
After all, false accusations are very common; if there is a bias against someone or they believe that person might be harmful, that should not be enough to take their firearm rights away. Unfortunately in 2021 America, that’s exactly what the Democrats want to do. This is why things like VAWA need to be opposed.
