Once rumored to be on the horizon for months, Smith & Wesson Firearms continued to make headlines with the release of the Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 Pistol. The company who has been expanding the M&P line over the last few years offering the pistols in new colors and new sizes has reportedly finally taken steps to upgrade the pistol as a whole. The current design has remained largely unchanged since it’s release. The only real change to the line was the models with an available external safety that came to market a few years ago. This upgrade was well over due, but what does it all mean?
- Corrosion resistant “Armornite Finish”
- Agressive grip texture
- Four interchangeable palm swell inserts
- S&W M&P 2.0 trigger (hearing rumors of it being an Apex Tactical trigger)
- Steel white 2 dot rear sights
At first glance the list looks a little boring and unfulfilling, but you have to read between the lines on this press release. As a Smith & Wesson M&P owner I can tell you I hated the trigger and thought it needed more texturing, so I went and got it taken care of. Now someone at S&W has finally looked around at the complaints of the users and adjusted their production line accordingly. The drawback to this announcement is that the large number of people that are making their paychecks off of stippling peoples S&W M&P pistols and changing out their triggers will see a marked drop in income eventually. That’s how capitalism works though and I think the whole releasing of the S&W M&P 2.0 couldn’t have come at a better time than the month before the worlds biggest gun show.
We will be in line next month to shoot the Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 during Industry Day at the Range as part of SHOT Show 2017 and will definitely report back to our readers the night of January 16th,2017. I own a M&P that has the APEX Tactical trigger system in it so I have a decent amount of familiarity with how it should feel and function so it will be an interesting experience to say the least. The hope is to also interview one of the reps and get the company’s idea behind this release of the M&P 2.0. The pistol is reported to have an MSRP of $529.00 and will be available at all the usual S&W retailers sometime in the first quarter of 2017.
What do you think of the changes? are they good or bad? we would like to hear from current M&P owners and see what you think of these developments. As always if there is anything we can do to help, or if you have questions feel free to drop us a comment or question in the area below. Thanks and have a Merry Christmas.
