Shopping around for a solid 1911 these days is a task that becomes increasingly challenging as the years go by. More and more companies are producing 1911 pistols, making it more and more difficult to find out which one will truly fill your needs. Every 1911 shooter seems to have different priorities for their pistol as far as features and overall performance. Asking a bunch of 1911 fans what kind of 1911 you should buy is like going around to a bunch of random people and asking them what kind of vehicle you should buy. You will hear a bunch of different answers to the question. I would like to present to you a 1911 from Rock Island Armory that might just suit the bill in just about every angle. Before we get into the pistol itself, I think we should talk first about what you may just want to look for in a 1911 that you are going to be spending your hard earned cash on.
First thing you need in a pistol is for it to be built out of quality materials. This means that the metallurgy of the pistol needs to be tightly controlled and the parts, to include the springs, need to be made well in order to offer you a long life of proper function.
When you spend your money on a pistol, you definitely want to make sure that the company that makes the pistol will service it and hopefully offer a lifetime warranty, just in case. Trust me, this is more valuable than you may think.
Next, you want to get a pistol that has a reputation for reliability and few failures, whether that be parts breakages or malfunctions. After that, you might want to narrow down your search to manufacturers that have a generous lineup of pistol designs and stock features, which can allow you to get the pistol you want without having to hire a gunsmith. Options! It is all about options out of the box.
And last but not least, that pistol better cost a reasonable amount of money. Personally, I don’t like the idea of spending twice the amount of money I need to, just because of the name of the company that made it. Especially if corners were cut and they don’t offer anything of value to justify the price. Usually this isn’t the case and many manufacturers have a sweet little way of doing things like an added feature here and there that you may feel you can’t live without. I have fallen victim to this sales pitch myself.
Honestly, the idea of having all of these qualities may sound like a pipe dream, but it is just what Rock Island Armory has to offer. In general, they offer the largest lineup of 1911 pistols that you will find anywhere, and they are all extremely affordable to the point that you will do a double-take on the price tag after fondling one of these pistols for the first time.
From my time of being a 1911 nut, and looking up and down for a quality 1911 for a good price, you can’t do better at the moment. Sure you could spend a load of cash on another pistol because the finish is cuter or whatever, but why do that when you could use the extra money to sponsor you first trip to the range?
Now as for this 1911, it is called the Rock Standard. I would describe it as being the best pistol that draws that fine balance of being combat ready, while also allowing certain features that can help you win a match. At around $400, I have yet to see a 1911 of this quality, with this many options in terms of caliber selection and features.
